Apart from the establishment of SOMAFCO Secondary School, living accommodation, childcare facilities, hospital related workshops and infrastructure; the Mazimbu complex was aimed to be self sufficient in food production. Thus, the Farm project had had the following goals: a) to achieve a standard whereby the whole complex would be self-relient to maintain a population of app. 2.500 people through development of crop and animal-husbandry production and related manufacturing of products; b) to develop and manage the Farm to standard to which could provide up to date training of the ANC cadres in all aspects of agricultural activities; c) The Farm would not only feed the community of the complex, but was also geared to generate funds to pay for running costs, seeds, fertilizer, fuel etc. for subsequent years.

The agriculture activities were divided into three main sections:

1. Crop-production

2. Livestock and

3. Agriculture planning and implementation

Agriculture became one of the relevant production units of the complex that authorities decided to integrate it into the college curriculum. It therefore became an intention of ANC Department of Education to introduce a well-conceived and properly planned pre-vocational course in agriculture for the students.
