Biographical Note

The growth of SOMAFCO meant that other means of educational disciplines had to installed to the complex the really learning centre of the exiled community. The College had encompassed nursery, primary, secondary and adult education programmes administered by the African National Congress (ANC). The ANC educational programme was designed in that (a) the Bantu Education system had systematically denied black South Africans access to a scientific education that could prepare them for roles in a highly developed technical society, and (b) that the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College had had the responsibility for training students to assume positions of technical and responsibility in the post-apartheid South Africa. Therefore, the programme to integrate computers and electronics at SOMAFCO was aimed at addressing these imbalances.

The computer science and the electronics education at SOMAFCO had had several goals. At one level, it was designed to provide basic technical competency in the fields and electronics to all students at the College, from the primary school, through the secondary and including the adult education programme. At a more fundamental level, there was a great interest to use the computer as a powerful tool to improve learning across the educational spectrum at the college
