Since SOMAFCO was a Boarding Establishment, this necessitated the organization that would look after the interests of the learners, staff and the other communities of the complex. The Catering Establishment was charged with mechanisms to ensure the people of the complex were supplied with proper food. Due to medical reasons some people could not take any type of food like the rest. As a result this had to be taken into consideration, too. Certain Departments of the College, namely, The Directorate, Treasury, Regional Commissar, Women Section, and Principals were responsible to take a strong deliberate check and observation in the Catering Department. Though there were problems in this formation like in any society, there existed ways through which they could be attended to and resolved.

The SOMAFCO Catering Department is comprised of .2 linear meters and one series: Subject Files. It is one the smallest collections. It spans the years 1980-1990. The documents reflect general functions and operations of the Department. They are vividly contained in the box list below. When one looks at the reports compiled by the Catering Committee would see the amount of work executed in order to ensure an improved and proper food supply to the entire SOMAFCO community. Apart from this there were a number of problems like lack of trained staff, deployment of staff to other ANC missions, health conditions, etc. that needed constructive and holistic approach to solve.
