History
Dar- Es- Salaam is the capital city of Republic of Tanzania where the ANC had had its main office. Apart from being the diplomatic mission of the ANC, the office was also in charge of its members who had settled in Tanzania since the early sixties up until nineties when exiles repatriated to South Africa.
After 1976 student revolt against Bantu Education and the overall Apartheid regime in South Africa, many young people were forced to seek in the neighboring states. Young as they were, the liberation movement was about particularly their education and future. It was because of such concerns that the ANC initiated a place where these young people could stay and further their studies. The Tanzanian government was willing to assist. Thus, in 1978 the ANC school, Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College (SOMAFCO) was established in the country. This was later followed a general community settlement of the ANC members in the village of Dakawa near the town of Morogoro, in the Southeast of Tanzania. The Dar Office was therefore responsible in discharging the needs and wants of these communities.
